This Mendocino County red has a subtlety and approachability that isn’t typically expected from a California Cabernet Sauvignon. Red and black fruit are the forefront here with a balanced acidity and soft, smooth tannins on the finish.

“When Marty Taucher asked Chris Peterson to review his draft winery business plan in 2009, it fortuitously coincided with Peterson’s desire to start a new chapter in his winemaking career. The conversation continued at the friendly confines of North Seattle’s Fiddlers Inn, where the vision for Avennia was born.  Mutual esteem for their respective strengths and experiences allowed them to forge an effective partnership.  Ultimately, they agreed on the Avennia’s core principles – a passionate commitment to signature vineyards and natural processes in the cellar - resulting in timeless, world class wines that are solely and undeniably Washington.”*

ABOUT THE VINEYARDS: 
“Boushey Vineyards, owned by Richard and Luanne Boushey, are located in the Yakima Valley five miles north of the town of Grandview on the southern slopes of the Rattlesnake Mountains.  The vineyards are planted on several sites within a two-mile radius; generally south-facing slopes varying from 700 to 1200 ft. elevation. The first blocks of grapes were planted in 1980 and the youngest was recently planted in 2003.  Dick’s philosophy of grape growing is to compliment mother nature. Occasionally he tries to fool her into thinking she is in control but most of time it is the other way around.”

“This iconic vineyard, producer of countless high-scoring wines, was planted and managed by Paul Champoux for many years until he recently retired. Dan Nickolaus has taken over, and the vineyard looks as great as ever. Their Cabernet Franc was planted in 1997 and has been featured both in our Valery Right bank Bordeaux-style blend since 2012, and a new single vineyard varietal wine starting in 2015. Wines from here are very complex, with wild aromas of huckleberry, cherry, tobacco and tea leaf, baked clay, cocoa, and mountain wildflowers and silky and palate-coating flavors of dark strawberry, earthy tobacco notes, rich chocolate, and hints of violet.”*
