ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Bergström Wines is an Oregon-based wine producer located in Willamette Valley. It produces a portfolio of premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from organically and biodynamically farmed fruit.
The first vineyard was planted in 1999 by John and Karen Bergström, and today the family owns five vineyards across four AVAs: Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountain, Yamhill-Carlton and Ribbon Ridge spanning a total of 34 hectares (84 acres).
The estate's first vineyard, the Bergström Vineyard, is composed of volcanic basalt and planted to 5ha (13 acres) of vines, including six different clones of Pinot Noir and three clones of Chardonnay. On top of the estate vineyards, Bergström has long-term farming agreements at Temperance Hill Vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills, where it grows Pinot Noir and Chardonnay around the caldera of an ancient volcano, and at the esteemed Shea Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton that sits on ancient marine sandbed soils.
Each vintage, Bergström typically produces a small collection of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines sourced from single vineyards. The flagship of which is the Sigrid Chardonnay, sourced from the oldest plantings within the company's holdings. It is fermented and barrel-aged in French oak for 18 months prior to bottling.
